Your Frida Home London bed linen is made with love in Portugal by people who really care, using the finest materials. But to prolong its lifespan, appearance and quality, regular care and maintenance is essential. These simple and effective steps will help you keep your bed linen in prime condition and allow you to love it for years to come.

BEFORE YOU USE

It's a good idea to wash your new bed linen before using it for the first time. This will remove any impurities gathered during shipping and storage. Bed linen can feel crisper when new so washing will make it feel softer and it will continue to soften with each wash. Give it a good shake after removing it from the 100% cotton storage bag and before putting in the machine.

WASHING

First, carefully read the care label. Fabric compositions and washing instructions can be different. We have included the appropriate information for each of our bed linen ranges. As long as you follow these instructions, you can’t go far wrong. Your Frida Home London quality bed linen will naturally soften during washing.

How often you wash your bed linen is largely personal preference, but once a week would be ideal. For best results, we recommend washing your bed linen inside out with similar items. Separate into whites and colours, to prevent your crisp white sheets from being dimmed or accidentally dyed by coloured fabrics. Always check for stray coloured socks and scrunched up coloured pillowcases, so as not to sabotage your white washes. Mixing your bed linen with garments with zips and hooks can cause damage. Do not dry clean your bed linen as the chemical process used can damage your bedding.

Place your washing into the machine on a normal cycle in warm water (we'd recommend a gentle 40° degree cycle or less). Higher temperatures can actually damage your bed linen. Use a small amount of mild liquid detergent to keep it at its absolute best. For best results, never use bleach or fabric softeners as these can damage the high quality fibres and result in premature wear and tear. Avoid using detergent pods and powders as they can stain or fade fabrics. Be aware that some skincare and cosmetics, hair products, dyes and household cleaning products may contain benzoyl peroxide, alpha hydroxy acids and chlorine bleach which can cause discolouration.

Your 100% cotton storage bag should be hand washed separately.

DRYING

Remove your bed linen from the washing machine as quickly as possible and give it a good shake. Ideally, we would all love to dry our laundry naturally outside, especially on those lovely warm days, giving us that outdoor freshness to our wash. Even if it’s not summer, a slight breeze will help. Drying outside naturally on a washing line or drying rack will minimise wrinkles and keep your bed linen looking its best for years to come.

Your Frida Home London bed linen can be tumble dried, but in an effort to be eco-friendly, we advise trying to avoid this. However if you do decide to use a tumble dryer, always check the care label to ensure the fabric is actually suitable. Avoid using dryer sheets as these can damage the natural fibres, resulting in premature wear and tear. Dry on a low heat as excessive heat can destroy the natural fibres of the fabric and shorten the lifespan of your bed linen. Take out the washing when it’s dry but still slightly warm.

To keep your 100% cotton storage bag looking its best, pull to shape and dry flat.

IRONING

If you follow our washing and drying advice, ironing shouldn't be necessary. However we know some people like the crisp, hotel look. If you do iron, always ensure you check the care label first and follow the correct temperature settings. Iron when slightly damp.

100% cotton is best ironed by using a medium to hot setting to flatten any wrinkles. For added ease and speed, fold your bedding and iron over several layers at a time. Our Ultimate Relaxed 100% linen is best un-ironed. The creased, tumbled, relaxed look is part of its charm. However if you do iron, use a low temperature.

The 100% cotton storage bag should only be ironed on the reverse with a warm iron.

STORING

The golden rule is to keep bed linen folded flat in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight. Avoid storing in plastic, as this can hold moisture. Instead, use the fabric storage bag your Frida Home London bed linen arrived in. You can line your drawers and shelves with quality tissue paper and scented sachets. This helps to counteract moisture and keep bedding smelling fresh.
